macaroni soup
[info]bastayunnayun wrote in [info]picturing_food
We call it "sopas" in the Philippines, and we always have this one during rainy days. I don't know what's with the rain but the soup really taste good when the weather is cold, and all you want to do the whole day is stay home and just bum around.

It's a little chilly already here in China so I started off my day with a hot macaroni soup ("mainit na sopas")! I miss home, already... this soup makes me cherish the not-so-old cold rainy days back home.

Battle of Corned Beef & Cabbage Sandwiches: San Francisco
[info]cheeseburghers wrote in [info]picturing_food
(Pardon weak phone photography)

The first contender: John Campbell's Irish Bakery. ($6.00) Simple corned beef and cabbage with pickling spices on a Belfast bap. (I added brown sauce.) Heated up by the nice folks at the counter, it was glorious. Everything I've had there so far is glorious. And there's a whole lot of everything in that little shop. If you're in or visiting the Bay Area, you must go.

Striped Polonaise
[info]puzzleoflight wrote in [info]steamfashion
A couple of weeks ago, I asked for help putting together a steampunk outfit for a Halloween costume. I didn't have much time/money to do too many additions, but I think it turned out okay anyway. Today, some friends of mine and myself got together for a photo shoot at a local college campus. I thought you might be interested in seeing the finished product, though I do apologize that I'm not necessarily the best model.

Fairly large pictures behind the cut. )
Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!

Birthday Feast
[info]shimmerngspirit wrote in [info]picturing_food
For my darling husband's birthday I made us a romantic feast. On the table is homemade lasagna with homemade noodles and my Sunday gravy from scratch. I also baked a loaf of whole wheat bread along with a lemon chiffon birthday cake with buttercream frosting.

The photography isn't stellar, and my decorating isn't great but this was an amazing dinner.

The whole feast.

We went to the Iowa Wine and Food Expo in Des Moines, Iowa today. I had sushi for the first time and ate WAY too much food.

My New Winter Skirt
[info]acrescentmoon wrote in [info]steamfashion
I finished my new patch-work winter skirt. I'm thinking maybe I'll be Cinderella with some clockwork mice that do all my work.

I want an under-bust corset to go with it, but that will have to wait until all the gift giving holidays are over.

The Daughter's Safari Outfit
[info]mahariel wrote in [info]steamfashion
The newest outfit for my daughter, for a steamy zoo expedition tomorrow:

On Safari

The skirt is made from the same pattern I used to make her red and black outfit for SteamCon. The vest was made from Simplicity 2484. The boots and shirt are from Target, although I tea-dyed the shirt from its original white cotton state.

This was the "test run" of the outfit, to make sure the pieces were coming together. Once we knew everything fit and worked with each other, I added some antique mother of pearl buttons to the vest, and some lace to the collar and cuffs of the shirt, but it got too dark for another picture.

Tunisian Crochet Jacket
[info]ada_doom wrote in [info]steamfashion
For those of you who crochet, and know how to do Tunisian crochet, the newest issue of Inside Crochet (issue 5) has a pattern for a very lovely jacket. I beleive this magazine is a UK publication, but I know I can find it (albeit late) in my local book store here in Ontario. This looks like it may well be worth the import price.

Pictures of the jacket can be found here on the Designers blog:

I love the look of Tunisian crochet, it just takes me forever to do it. Not a speedy project but quite possibly worth the effort. :0)

Butternut Squash Soup
[info]francefanatic wrote in [info]picturing_food
This is a delicious soup made from leeks, zucchini, and butternut squash. It is a favorite in my house! I make it often. I tried growing butternut squash in my garden this year. Where the acorn squash took off, the butternut squash didn't do so well.
